Holiday Wellness: Thrive and Stay Energised this Festive Season
Are you buzzing with excitement this holiday season? Here’s a few tips to keep that buzz going, ensuring that you stay fit, fresh, and fueled up for the holiday joy that’s about to come
Whether you’re jetting off this December, crossing things off your bucket list, or simply gearing up for a fun time with your loved ones, it’s important to keep an eye on your health and wellbeing and maintain your energy levels up for the holiday joy to come. After all, where’s the fun in festivities if you are too drained to enjoy them?
1.Burn calories while running holiday errands
Who said shopping sprees can’t double as fitness wins? How about parking the furthest from the shopping mall so you can get a nice walk in, taking the stairs instead of the lift, or walking a few laps around the mall to get in some of those daily steps while ticking off your to-do list?
It's a surefire way to keep your holiday weight in check.
2.‘Gamify’ your holiday workouts
Include the entire family and transform workouts into fun family challenges. A fun way to ensure that the entire family stays healthy and energised is by crafting games for each other with a prize. Set up some friendly push-up competitions with some trinkets as the prize so that everyone is further motivated.
Plus, it’s easy to be motivated to exercise when you’re taken up by the competitiveness of it all! The laughter and bonding make it feel less like exercise and more like play.
3.Make fitness ‘fun'
Blend quality family time with physical activity. If you’re going to be spending time with the family, how about making a sport out of it? It could be anything – from cycling or swimming to running on the beach, or even playing badminton.
Make happy memories while keeping those energy levels up. It won’t even feel like exercise amidst all the fun!
4.Savour holiday treats, mindfully
Moderation will be your best friend this holiday season. Those sugar-loaded treats are irresistible, and that is why you must be extremely careful around them. If you eat foods that are high in sugars, calories, and saturated fats, make sure you consume small amounts. But first, have some fruits and vegetables. Doing so will gobble the desire to binge-eat those mouthwatering treats
5.Mind the portions
A little here, a little there, can ultimately add up fast. Even with 200 extra calories a day (in the form of a slice of pie, a sugar-laden mocktail, or some cookies here and there), you could exceed your daily recommended calorie intake, leaving you groggy and lethargic.
6.Take a breather between helpings
It takes around 10 minutes for the “I’m full” signal from your stomach to reach your brain. So, after your first helping, take a 10-minute break. Take a few sips of water, engage in a lively conversation, or simply relax. Chances are, you’ll find yourself reaching for a smaller portion—or skipping that second plate entirely.
The festive season is a time of togetherness and joy – but it shouldn’t derail you from health and wellness. Be sure to keep these tips in mind when you’re up and about having a great time - your body will thank you for it.
